What is your name and what character do you play in the show?

My name is Mary Faber, and I play Kate Monster and Lucy The Slut.

Where were you born?

Greenville, North Carolina.

Where were you raised?

Norfolk, Virginia.

Where do you live now?

I live in Brooklyn.

What were you doing immediately before you were cast in Avenue Q?

I was playing nine different characters in an off-broadway musical called "Slut." I also had a day job typing up transcriptions for shows like "Dateline" and "60 Minutes."

Do you have a favorite backstage story that you'd like to share with Avenue Q fans?

Well, Trekkie, since my first performance is December 26th and today is December 22nd, I can't say I've had much time
backstage except for the few times I've trailed Stephanie D'Abruzzo. Everyone--from the crew to the musicians to the
actors--has the traffic down to a science. There's a lot going on with very little room to do it in. Watching the action backstage is a show in itself.

How has the Avenue Q experience changed your life?

I actually quit my day job! This is my Broadway debut, and being able to do that in a show like Avenue Q is a dream come true for me. I've loved it since I first saw it.

Why do you think Avenue Q is such an overwhelming success?

Well, I guess that ties into the previous question. Two years ago I was still really new to the city. I was dating with
limited success. My writing partner and I were putting on super-low budget sketch shows in East Village dive bars. I was
temping in a giant office building on Park Avenue and scraping by while pursuing what I really want in life. It was my friends who kept me afloat and gave me the support to keep me from packing it in. One of the reasons Avenue Q resonates with people is that everyone at one time or another has been a newcomer. At some point, everyone encounters uncharted territory. What I like about the residents of Avenue Q is
their total willingness to explore, make mistakes, and learn.

Plus, the show is hella funny.

How do you handle the demanding 8 show a week performance schedule?

I know I've got to be disciplined about taking care of myself, but I will have to let you know once I've been in performances for a couple of weeks.

What do you do to keep in shape for the show?

Running, yoga, and weekly voice lessons.

What is your favorite part of the show to perform?

"For Now" is definitely my favorite.

Where did you attend school? High School? College?

-I went to Maury High School and the Virginia Governer's School for the Arts. Then I got my B.A. at Brandeis University.

What are your hobbies and interests off stage?

I'm a comedy geek. I love improv and sketch and reading books about comedy. My friends and I try to get together from time to time to write and play and crack each other up. It keeps me sane. I'm lucky to have so many brilliantly funny friends.

Do you have any special skills?  (i.e. sports, cooking, juggling)

Uh...I can cook a mean bowl of oatmeal. Seriously. Like bed and breakfast good.

Do you support any charitable activities/causes? If so, what are they?

I've donated my time as a performer for the Actors Fund in their concerts of Chess and Hair. I've also given to Heifer International and The Joy Fund.

Have you ever been asked to sing the national anthem at a sporting event?  If so, what was that experience like for you?

I've never sung at a sporting event. But I've performed at many illustrious institutions in the past. You might have seen
me in Orlando doing an industrial for chewing tobacco, in a mermaid outfit at JCPenney, or at a Long Island Bar Mitzvah,
singing in front of the brisket. Um...yes, really. That wasn't a
joke! Trekkie, please stop chuckling now.

Do you speak a foreign language and would you be comfortable performing Avenue Q in that language?

I studied Italian in college, but I didn't retain much. I'll get you started for "Avenue Q: Milan": "Il Internet e per porn." See, Trekkie! You're ahead of the curve.

If Avenue Q does a world tour, what top three cities would you like to play?

Tokyo, Dublin, and Venice.
